Derek Serna-Gallegos, MD, is a cardiac surgeon and is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is board certifiedĀ in cardiothoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and completed his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center followed by his fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Serna-Gallegos joined the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute in 2020. His clinical interests include all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with emphasis on aortic surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery, and advanced coronary artery disease. Dr. Serna-Gallegos has published multiple studies in peer reviewed medical journals and is a member of the American Medical Association and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
